First Evening at Wingspread
Another FLW Photography Workshop
In October 2025, I attended a workshop with Andrew Pielage, Wright in Milwaukee. We stayed at The Johnson Foundation, Wingspread, explored nearby Frank Lloyd Wright homes and properties and of course, Wingspread.
I’m finally making my way through the images.
The above image is the front view of Wingspread. It’s such a beautiful building and the entire property is peaceful and gorgeous. It was a wonderful place to stay, learn and create.
There are a few paths around you that you can wander when you’re not in meetings or classroom settings.
This is a side view of the cantilevered Juliet balcony.
Another view of the Juliet Balcony. The Juliet balcony was built at the request of one of the Johnson children.
I was fascinated by these vines at Wingspread. They create such interesting shapes and textures and add to the organic nature of the architecture.
The Crow’s Nest at Wingspread is the other feature of the home that was a request of the children. The other is the Juliet Balcony I mentioned above.
The Wingspread Interior
As we move inside, you’ll see that it is every bit as, if not more so, stunning as the outside. This main family room is incredible with its 4-way fireplace and interesting ceiling.

If you’ve ever visited a Frank Lloyd Wright property, you know he was a master at the use of light. This is down one of the hallways
This is the last one for now. I’ll write up another blog post at some point to include more from inside and outside.

As you wander around any Frank Lloyd Wright building, you’ll find so many shapes, light and shadows. They are really a photographers dream to photograph.
